Welcome to Mudkiss news and updates for the period Aug - Sept 2010.

I am now the owner of an Apple iPhone, it's been a little godsend. No longer do I have to have the engine constantly running on my Pc as I can check mail and other networking stuff from anywhere. (although that can be a downside at times).
We are pleased to welcome Joanne Poole who joined us at the back end of July with some super-delicious live shows reviews. She's certainly been a blessing to me, writing the reviews whilst I concentrate on my photography skills.
Talking of photography I've just completed my first alternative modelling shoot with SarahTonin - all are posted on my flickr site. It's an avenue I want to really develop further. Also I've just entered the NME's photography comp - with a handful of live shots but it was hard choosing just a few.
I have a few shoots in the pipeline with a band and a well known Manchester personality (to be kept under wraps till a firm date is arranged). So it's looking good - my portfolio is expanding SOULKISS is now my personal photography site, needs some work but is up and running. www.soulkiss.co.uk
Not content with this here's a portfolio which I am working on - http://mudkiss.carbonmade.com
It might be a quieter next two months as tis the holiday season. I for one am planning a wigwam bam holiday in Northumberland.
Our show calendar seems to be a lot quieter this month, although that doesn't mean we'll be doing nothing. We have the big Rochdale Festival next Saturday, probably our last big festival coverage this summer. In my Mudkiss calendar for September I am booked for The Like, Zola Jesus, Jessie Rose Trip, Doll & The Kicks, Grinderman, Kirsty Almeida's album launch show in Manchester and the local Newton Indie Festival. Grinderman is going to be one of the years best events I can feel it in my bones!!
Congratulations go out to Bubblegum Slut Mag for turning 10 years old. We bow down to your greatness, well done Alison. We'll be chatting to her this month - what a woman!
Meanwhile back at the ranch we catch up with the rest of the gang:
Lorraine: Lorraine has taken to devouring pumpkin seeds in a bid to battle anaemia and acquire the energy to become embroiled in the colourful infamy of NW London plus the usual periodic escape to Cornwall to plague her family! Did you know that white wine aids the body's absorption of iron whilst red inhibits it? That said, she still managed to make it out to see ex Libertine's drummer Gary Powell perform with new band The Invasion of.. and The Book Club, including Andy Nicholson of Arctic Monkey's fame. Once up to full strength she is looking forward to a swim at the local newly restored Kentish Town Baths http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2010/jul/26/kentish-town-baths-restored-open and a spot of decorating - even a film screening!
Dick: He's recently been involved in a riot at Flambards Theme Park, Helston. Punches were thrown and ceramic meerkats hurled at staff. Currently he is nursing his sunburned belly and man-boobs. He may even get around to writing about rock'n'roll at some point.
Den: He says "I've been chained to my writing desk & getting meals through a hatch in the door until the Sid, Nancy & Alex book is finished. Target date end of the year. I might be let out to review the new Subway Sect album later this month. I'll be previewing some more of my book on "Mining for Gold" in September."
Rachel: Currently taking a break from writing for Mudkiss.
Joanne: A packed couple of months with two weekend festivals Rochdale Feel Good Festival and Liverpools Matthew Street Festival. 21st Aug is reserved for The Stocks & others at Jabez Clegg, Manchester with a quick dash across to Moho Live for The 66 playing on the same night. Sept kicks off with Muse at Lancashire Cricket Ground. 18th Sept we have a great line up for first time all day event Newton Indie Fest at Newton Cricket Club. I'll be in Beijing early October so if you're a band playing out there or have any recommendations for where to catch great live music please message me.
News just in we have a new team member a Mancunian called Phil King - he is certainly no stranger to gigs, he goes to more gigs than I could dream of. On top of this he is an ace photographer.Welcome on board, hope you enjoy the ride, Phil will be reviewing new music and shows in and around Manchester.
