After a hectic Summer, the Mudkiss team are relaxing, putting their feet up and looking forward to a quiet introduction to Autumn. Like hell they are!!
Festival season is far from over, we have new boy Callum at Leeds Festival this weekend. Assuming he stays sober enough, a review of Friday’s activities including headliners Muse playing the whole of their “Origin Of Symmetry” album will be forthcoming.
Mel and Andy are covering The Rochdale Feelgood Festival, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Fun Lovin Criminals (Watch out Huey, Mel has her photographic eye on you!!) Badly Drawn Boy, Frankie and the Heartstrings, Ellen and the Escapades and Doyle and the Forefathers. Looks like September 3rd will be a busy day for the intrepid two.
Over the same weekend, we’re also going to infiltrate Bingley Music Live where Feeder, The Coral, The Mystery Jets and White Denim are all performing. Keep an eye on the site for more news. www.bingleymusiclive.com
Looking slightly further down the line, especially for the more extreme music fan, The Sophie Festival is taking place on Saturday November 19th at Ashton Town Hall in Tameside, supporting The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, a charity set up after the tragic death of Sophie, killed simply for looking different. The aim of the foundation is to provide educational group-works that will challenge the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures and to campaign to have the UK Hate Crime legislation extended to include people from “alternative subcultures” or “Lifestyle and Dress.” It’s a worthy cause, very dear to the hearts of many music fans and it will be a fantastic day of hard and heavy music. Definitely one for the diary.
On the gig front, we have reviewers out and about for P.J Harvey, The Subways, Anna Calvi, Beirut and You, Me at Six (How did they get in there!!.) We also have reviews and interviews scheduled with Viv Albertine ex of The Slits, LA sleaze rockers The Icarus Line, Alpines and the new face of major label British Heavy Metal, Rise to Remain, who signed with EMI earlier this year.
As if that weren’t enough, we’ll have the usual album and singles reviews including new releases from (love em or hate em, you can’t deny they are BIG) Noel Gallagher and Coldplay.
It’s a chaotic few weeks ahead, but that’s we like it at Mudkiss. Bookmark the Facebook page and the site, especially the preview section where you’ll find updated details of all the latest festivals, tours and releases.

Meanwhile over in the photographic corner I've had a couple of interesting shoots, from a young Guy called Sam Millar with the most brilliant 80's hair I've seen in a long time. He also plays in a local band, inspired by his favourite band Darkness. A great photographic day out at Rochdale Feelgood festival, meeting lots of bands and its always such a good vibe here, looking forward to next year. J P Harvey was brilliant but such a shame I was too late for the photo pass, had to content with my point and shoot, which ultimately fails to get that money shot. My jaunt to London in September was such a blast, not only did I have chance to catch up with my co-partner in crime Lorraine but got to meet some lovely people, who are known as the rock band 'Earth Prayer' and shot some of them naked in Regents Park. Heid Jo Hines the singer, who we interviewed earlier in the year has to be one of the most beautiful people [inside and out] I have ever photographed, I guess genes plays a big part in it, her parents are Denny Laine [Moody Blues/Wings] and the Model Jo Jo Hines. It was also one of the funniest shoots I've done to date.
Remember I am available on Fridays and weekends if you want to contact me for prices and ideas.
