MUDKISS FEATURES A SPOTLIGHT ON BANDS WORTH CHECKING OUT.

THE CUBICAL - www.myspace.com/thecubicalthecubical

Liverpool band The Cubical, score top marks with Mudkiss, watch this space for a review of their new album soon to be released and a live show review. Influenced by music such as Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Velvet Underground and The Doors. How can  they fail to not deliver, they use their influences to create their own unique sound which filters across as psychedelic, blues, rock music. We've been fortunate to hear the album first hand and let me tell you it is something else !!

TEN CITY NATION: www.myspace.com/tencitynation

November 07 saw them supporting NME darlings We Start Fires on a UK tour.  Releasing their debut single and album to some acclaim in early 2008 a sold-out single launch party at London’s Islington Bar Academy led to high-profile supports for Artrocker favourites Untitled Musical project and Popular Workshop. The band also helped put together (and appeared on) a compilation in aid of Love Music Hate Racism. A song from the debut album, ‘TDK 90’, will be featured on the new Suicide girls movie, due for release in 2009.

New album released 3.07.09 'At The Still Point'- currently on Mudkiss Mel's playlist, heavy, thrusting, melodic guitars and great vocal, with a flavour of The Doors psychedelic meanderings.

PINK HEARSE - www.myspace.com/itspinkhearse

A Blackpool based band of punky, horror, popsters, all female and giving the guys a run for their money. Stunning bright outfits, and striking dancing from Nikki Hearse.

THE HYPERJAX - www.myspace.com/thehyperjax

What can I say - this band  packed out Strummercamp's smaller stage, rockabilly, punk with a stunning lead singer (which helps)! They have several releases under their belt and are pretty known on the rockabilly circuit, keep your mind open and go see them live.

ACES & EIGHTS - www.myspace.com/thecreaturethateightsheboygan

Yet another great Strummercamp find, ballsy rockabilly, with punk injection. Be scared, be enthralled, rock n' roll, the band are one to watch out for, they deserve to be huge.

MAGIC EIGHT BALL - www.myspace.com/ilovemagiceightball

Just release their version of Depeche mode. 'Stripped', a classic songwriting trio from Surrey. They describe themselves as a  cross between the Manic Street Preachers & Queen via the power pop of Cheap Trick.

OPERATOR SIX - www.myspace.com/operatorsix

An indie band from Bradford who I keep missing live for one reason or another. They have a release out with a couple of great tracks, 'Things That We Used To Do' 'No Sleep Tonight' and 'Every Single Way'. I'll catch up with you guys this year I'm sure.

HEAT FROM A DEAD STAR - www.myspace.com/heatfromadeadstar

A fantastic name for a band, unusual stirrings of spiky, psychedelic mixed with pop sensibility and punk. New album out 'Seven Rays Of The Sun'.

EXILE PARADE - www.myspace.com/exileparade

A Warrington based band of five young guys who I've seen twice live and they played impressive sets on both occasions.A superb single out 'Heart Into Suicide' - check out my show reviews.Constantly playing live around the North West.

LOST KNIVES - www.myspace.com/lostknivesband

An interesting new Manchester based band, as I write they've only been together a short few months but getting lots of gigs and airplay. Who said Manchester is dead!!!

Chinners recommends:

FIGHT LIKE APES: www.myspace.com/fightlikeapesmusic

A really great band from Ireland who have an amazing live show, which includes 2 members of the band playfighting on stage, some great random lyrics with very catchy tunes. Their album with the great name of  "The Mystery of the Golden Medallion" is out now

THE LONGEST DAY:  www.thelongestday.biz

A four piece powerful melodic rock/metal band from Dorset, whose duelling guitars give pleasure to any listener, Dan's amazingly powerful vocals need to be heard to be believed. They are currently in the studio Romesh Dodangoda.

POLAR BEAR CLUB:  www.myspace.com/polarbearclub

An American hardcore post punk band whose live shows are just a massive burst of energy, their debut album "Sometimes Things Just Disappear" shows a maturity for a young band.

Elmor have been talked about quite a lot in the press with the Daily Mirror stating that they "are the most promising Indie band to hit the UK in a long time" anyway what to they know ? Make your own mind up for yourself. Elmor are a 5 piece band from the London and Guilford areas who are making quite a name for themselves on the live music scene with notable performances at the Islington Academy(Brit Bus Show Tour) and Guilfest 2009. With Luke - Vocals/Guitars, Tristan - Guitars, Andy - Keyboards/Sax, John - Bass and Rich on drums apparently drawing on their experiences from sleepy Scottish fishing villages and northern market  towns to the bustling cities of London and Vancouver. Their new single "Remember Thinking" is an upbeat track with a great guitar riff reminiscent of 80's popsters "Altered Images" track I could be Happy", Luke's vocals shine through brilliantly on this massively catchy tune which would easily suit blasting out on your radio as you are driving along on a summers day. Elmor have the right ingredients to take their music all the way give bands such as "Elbow" and "Doves" a run for their money.  The band have a UK tour planned for September 2009 and their debut and as of yet unamed album has already been recorded ready for release early next year.
